On 17 October 2011, the UN’s Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples told its General Assembly that he receives “on a daily basis, allegations of violations of the rights of indigenous peoples in specific cases”. In particular, said James Anaya: “I have observed throughout my work that the issue of extractive industries is a major and immediate concern of indigenous peoples all over the world”.
