South Africa: Judge must oversee probe into mine protest deaths

Amnesty International has called on the South African authorities to ensure that any investigation into the deaths of the 34 people who died after South African police opened fire at the Marikana mine complex must be overseen by a judge.

See http://www.amnesty.org.uk/news_details.asp?NewsID=20289.

The Marikana mine is owned by London-based Lonmin, whose major shareholder is London-listed Xstrata.
