The Paraguayan government and aluminium company Rio Tinto Alcan will resume meetings in the next few days to discuss the installation of a US$2.5bn aluminum smelter, a press official from the country’s industry and trade ministry (MIC) told BNamericas. “The dates of the meetings haven’t been set yet, but they will be this week or next,” the official said. In the upcoming meetings, the details will be worked out for the installation of the smelter. “It’s a very large investment and it will generate a lot of local jobs,” the official said. In March, Rio Tinto executives expressed their satisfaction with the Paraguayan government’s support for the smelter.
