The people have not forgotten about the Phulbari killing, uprising, the Phulbari Agreement or the commitment made by different governments. These are all living memory for us. Dhaka, Nov 27: The adviser to the Prime Minister, Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, said on Thursday that the government has not awarded Asia Energy the contract for extracting coal from Phulbari through the open-pit mining method. The company has merely undertaken feasibility studies in Phulbari area. “Asia Energy had bought an exploration licence here simply for conducting a survey. Asia Energy is yet to be awarded a coal mine development licence,” Chowdhury told The Independent on Thursday.
