It is now ten years since BHP left Papua New Guinea. When it did so it gave its shareholding in the giant Ok Tedi gold and copper mine to the people of PNG. That shareholding is still held in a Singapore-based company called PNG Sustainable Development Program Ltd – an organisation that’s mission is to provide infrastructure and development opportunities for Papua New Guineans.
