London-based multinational resource group Anglo American will continue with the works already underway at its US$3.3bn Quellaveco copper project in Moquegua region of Peru while updated technical and financial reports are prepared for the board of directors, a company representative told BNamericas.
The updated reports will be presented to the board in March or April this year, at which point the company’s directors will make their final decision on the project. The environmental impact study (EIS) for Quellaveco was approved years ago, but construction has been delayed because of community opposition, mainly related to water issues.
