On April 3, 2025, Rio Tinto is holding its annual general meeting in London. Join us and people around the world to tell Rio Tinto to Mind the Gap between rhetoric and reality.
A group of international campaigners are coming together in London to amplify community demands and put pressure on Rio Tinto and its investors to address a series of long-standing issues. The campaigners issued a briefing alerting investors to significant “gaps” between what Rio Tinto is saying and the lived experience on the ground in Arizona (USA), Madagascar, Mongolia and Serbia.
The briefing highlights how Rio Tinto: endangers a Native American sacred site with its large copper project in Oak Flat, Arizona (USA), as well as put in peril water supply in the drought-struck region; depletes water and pasture access to the shepherding communities in South Gobi Desert, Mongolia, compounded by concerns regarding leaks from the mining tailings; repeatedly refuses an independent environmental and human rights impact assessment for its mine in Madagascar despite civil society demands; continues to provide inadequate information and ignore strong community demands to abandon the project in the valley of river Jadar in Serbia.
Help us put pressure on Rio Tinto to address communities’ and campaigners’ concerns and demands.
