Papua New Guinea’s Morobe Joint Venture mine is owned by Harmony and Newcrest. It has a chequered history, having been explored, tested and controlled by Rio Tinto-CRA until 1998. Villagers near the mine report that all fish have disappeared from their rivers, while a local councillor is calling for a comprehensive environmental impact study, to determine the extent of pollution.
