Perle Zafinandro from Madagascar

The week before the recent Rio Tinto AGM, London Mining Network organised an event at Amnesty International UK’s Human Rights Action Centre so that people could hear from representatives of communities and workers directly affected by mining giant Rio Tinto’s activities.
Mamy Rakotondrainibe and Perle Zafinandro from Madagascar, Roger Featherstone from Arizona in the USA and Benny Wenda from West Papua spoke about the impacts of Rio Tinto’s operations on their communities. Dr Marta Conde from the Autonomous University of Barcelona spoke about a new report on the impacts of Rio Tinto’s uranium mining in Namibia on mine workers there. Adam Lee from global mining union IndustriALL spoke about the company’s treatment of workers and the union’s global campaign against it.
Our friends from Occupy made video recordings of the testimony. You can watch it all at http://occupylondon.org.uk/rio-tinto-the-ugly-truth-livestream-by-occupy-mayday/.
