Our Impact
An important feature of the London Mining Network is the solidarity and advocacy that we offer to communities badly affected by London-Linked Mining Companies. These communities are the main actors in their struggle for Justice but welcome the support of friends from around the world.
Watch this short video of Ximena Gallardo. They are a community member from El Melón, Chile, a community that is affected by Anglo American.
The video highlights the transnational quality of our work: the necessity to build connections across borders in order to tackle ‘big problems’ with ‘big solutions’.
Research and Education
A central concern of the London Mining Network is to support communities affected by mining, help make their voices heard and presence known in London. We assist them in pursuing just solutions to their problems and in raising awareness among the UK public of the social and environmental injustice faced by communities negatively impacted by mining.
Our research into the effects of global mining, transition minerals, and extractive industries at large is creating an ever-growing library of original reports. This research aims to further understandng and critical discussion of mining, while providing resources for further study in both academic and personal spaces.
Our education project centres around providing workshops, speakers and education resources to raise awareness about the impacts of mining on communities and land around the world. We run sessions with schools, universities, youth groups and community groups as well as facilitating online sessions. Our Resisting Mining Book Club is an ongoing part of our education work, brining together authors, academics and the public to discuss works dealing with mining related issues.
