Samuel Arregoces is from the village of Tabaco, a community of small-scale farmers of African descent which was brutally evicted in 2001 to make way for expansion of the massive Cerrejon opencast coal mine, now jointly owned by BHP Billiton. Danilo Urrea, CENSAT (Friends of the Earth Colombia), campaigns to reform the Colombian Government’s mining policies. Danilo and Samuel came to the Scottish Parliament to speak out about its investments in fossil fuels.

That’s the prominent climate sceptic and Tory peer who recently called fossil fuels “not finished, not obsolete, not a bad thing” and last week used his Times column to describe the “good news on global warming”. The group, calling themselves Matt Ridley’s Conscience are calling out coal as a red line for the climate. While one group are using their bodies to block coal wagons’ entry point to the site, others have made it on top of a massive excavator.
