The Pebble Mine project near Bristol Bay is jointly (50/50) owned by Anglo American and Northern Dynasty Minerals (in which Rio Tinto has a 19.6% stake). Six months ago, a delegation of native Alaskans and commercial salmon fisherpeople visited Anglo American’s London AGM, calling for a halt to this copper-gold mine project, whose consequences they regard as devastating. Now, one of North America’s most respected conservation groups is backing their demands.
