The Colombian Inter-Church Commission for Justice and Peace (CIJP) has replied to accusations against it by Muriel Mining, with which Rio Tinto has an agreement over a possible joint venture involving a copper, gold and molybdenum project in north western Colombia. The Commission says: “This fresh stigmatisation of CIJP’s actions seeks to distract attention from the factual and legal grounds for arguing that there has not been a true and genuine consultation process, and that the Muriel’s exploration has been on sacred land.”
