BHP Billiton may delay expansion of Olympic Dam mine
“There hasn’t been a [nuclear] plant in the world built without the relevant government assuming much of the construction, operating and financing risk. There is not a single insurer, banker or construction company in the world that is willing to assume that risk.” That’s the conclusion reached by an Australian analyst earlier this month.
Does this mean there will soon be a severe contraction in demand for the country’s uranium? Time will tell. But meanwhile, BHP Billiton looks like delaying expansion of output from its Olympic Dam mine in South Australia – host to the world’s largest uranium deposit.
