UK-based Churchill Mining has lost its right to exploit one of Indonesia’s largest and most promising new coal fields, also in East Kalimantan. In a complex feud between the company and its Indonesian financial backer, Churchill was accused of having taken over leases in East Kutai, officially handed to another domestic firm. Although Churchill has filed an appeal against this decision in Indonesia’s Supreme Court, it’s anyone’s guess as to how long it will take before being heard.
