Rio Tinto: Against People, Climate, and Nature

In April 2023, London Mining Network hosted representatives affected by Rio Tinto mining operations in Madagascar, Serbia, and the USA. They had traveled to London to challenge Rio Tinto at its Annual General Meeting and to raise questions and concers from their communities directly to the company’s directors.

While in London, our visitors participated in a mock trial of Rio Tinto, staged outside the company’s offices in St James Square. At the event, they acted as expert witnesses, reading aloud their experiences of the damage Rio Tinto has done.

The evening before the AGM, our visitors spoke at a public event held at the Human Rights Action Centre in East London. Each gave testimony on how Rio Tinto has harmed or threatened their local community, the climate, and surrounding nature.
