BHP used to hold two Annual General Meetings per year, one in London and one in Australia. Last year, however, the company announced that it would be ending its dual-listed structure and only holding AGMs in Australia from now on, rotating between major cities. Shareholders in the UK were promised that they would still be able to participate online and that the company was still committed to hearing all points of view.
It seems, however, that these promises have already been broken – the 2022 AGM is scheduled to take place at 10 am in Perth Australia, which is 2 am in the UK. Not exactly a convenient time for UK shareholders. There also doesn’t seem to be any way for those shareholders who are able to attend to interact or ask questions at the AGM.
Since BHP clearly doesn’t want us to attend their meeting, we’ve decided to run a Calendar Jam action, inviting the executive board of BHP to as many meetings as possible, to show the company that it can’t hide from accountability. We’re asking all of our supporters to take part, share the campaign video, and tell their friends to do the same! You can find instructions here, as well as handy links to share the action on social media and via email.
If you’re on Twitter, be sure to follow #BHPstopHiding to make sure you see the rest of the campaign!
